Adrian Frutiger and the Univers grid

Who is Adrian Frutiger, you say? Well let me tell ya. He is only one of the most influential and crucial people of the Typography world! Early on in his life he studied under Walter Kich and Alfred Willmann at an art institute in Zirchi. He has created over 30 different typefaces. Two of his most famous typefaces being Frutiger and Univers (the one we are currently using in class).  His later work has included creating watch faces for a Swiss watchmaker. Univers is a large family font ranging in many weights and styles. The Univers grid looks something like this:

The grid is a chart that helps organize the large family font into the different variations of kerning, stroke weight and how much the text is condensed or extended.
